Biography

Steve Dunlop, a talented graphic artist, embarked on his creative journey after completing a rigorous three-year ATI graphic design diploma course. Initially, he embraced the freelance path, showcasing his exceptional skills to clients far and wide. However, destiny had bigger plans for him when an irresistible opportunity beckoned from the iconic Madison Ave in New York. Steve enthusiastically accepted the role of Senior Art Director, immersing himself in the vibrant world of advertising for five exhilarating years before eventually returning to his roots in New Zealand.

Back in his homeland, Steve's entrepreneurial spirit led him to establish the highly successful advertising agency known as Creative Juice. As the Owner and Art Director, he skillfully steered the company's growth and direction for an impressive 16 years. With offices spanning New Zealand and Australia, Creative Juice thrived under Steve's visionary leadership, boasting a dedicated team of over 20 talented individuals.

However, Steve's passion and creativity extended beyond the advertising realm. He transitioned to the position of Senior Art Director at Diligent Board Member Services, channeling his expertise into developing the brand. Simultaneously, he delved into the world of illustration, bringing to life several captivating children's books. Notably, Steve designed and illustrated coloring books for NZ Forest and Bird, selflessly donating all proceeds to support charitable causes close to his heart.

Life took an unexpected turn when Steve encountered a serious accident, resulting in a debilitating shoulder injury and excruciating nerve pain. Faced with a three-year delay in his surgery, he embarked on a quest to explore alternative pain management methods. Rediscovering his childhood passion for drawing and painting, Steve found solace in the artistic process, which gradually alleviated his pain and reduced his reliance on medication.

Drawing inspiration from Maori artifacts, Steve's artistic creations pay homage to a cultural heritage that is scarce in present-day New Zealand. Since his design school days, where he passionately delved into Maori art for his thesis, he has been captivated by the integration of Maori art forms like carvings, weaving, and tattoos. Each stroke of his brush reflects a deep respect and appreciation for the rich cultural tapestry that these art forms embody.

Beyond Maori art, Steve's artistic repertoire extends to painting watercolors of historic buildings. These architectural marvels hold a special place in his heart, as he recognizes their fleeting presence and their significance in preserving our collective history. With each stroke, he immortalizes these old houses, cherishing not only the structures but also the stories of the people who once called them home.

Through his extraordinary artistic journey, Steve Dunlop continues to inspire and captivate with his immense talent, passion, and unwavering dedication to the creative arts.
